***** Campaign Summary *****
Nissan
is committed to the safety and security of our customers and their passengers. Nissan
has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that it is recalling certain specific MY2023 Nissan
Rogue vehicles to address a potential rear seat belt anchor issue. Nissan
is updating and expanding Quality Action (PC936) to inspect and remedy all potentially affected vehicles.
In affected vehicles, the rear seat belt anchor fastener could loosen over time and if a repair is conducted in the field, the recommended replacement bolt does not match the vehicle’s weld nut specification. In this condition, the seat belt fastener torque may not be sufficient and the hold strength to the floor is compromised. If this occurs, there is an increased risk of rear occupant injury during a crash.
Dealers will inspect both left-hand and right-hand rear seat belt anchor bolts and apply the correct torque. Additionally, dealers will apply warning labels to the seat belt attachment points to indicate the M12 size bolt and the torque value required for any future seat belt repair. In some cases, the dealers will remove a mis-applied label.
***** What Dealers Should Do****
- Verify if vehicles are affected by this Voluntary Recall Campaign using Service Comm or DBS National Service History Campaign I.D. PC978 and PC979.
- Dealers must not sell, lease, trade, rent, or loan any vehicles in dealer inventory affected by this recall campaign until after the vehicle has been repaired.
- Dealers should use NTB23-046 to remedy any vehicles affected by campaign PC978 and use NTB23-047 to remedy any vehicles affected by campaign PC979. IMPORTANT – Discard the procedure instructions provided for the Quality Action (PC936) as they no longer apply.
- Once remedied, dealers should submit the claim, using the claims coding provided, and release the vehicle.

Description of the Defect:
Due to a supplier assembly issue, affected Rogue vehicles may have been built using an M12 weld nut in the rear seat belt anchor attachment points, but the torque may not have been adjusted. As a result, the rear seat belt anchor fastener could loosen over time and, if a repair is conducted, the recommended replacement bolt would not match the vehicle’s weld nut specification. In this condition, the seat belt fastener torque may not be sufficient and the hold strength to the floor is compromised. If this occurs, there is an increased risk of rear occupant injury during a crash.
Chronology of Principal Events:
In late 2022, Nissan
was notified by the Tier 1 Supplier (Unipres) that M12 sized nuts were mistakenly used when assembling the vehicle’s rear sub-frame rear outboard seat belt anchor attachment points, in a small population of Rogue vehicles. Potentially affected vehicles were placed on quality hold. It was determined the properly installed M12 weld nuts would still meet performance standards. Nissan
released a design note to update the rear seatbelt fastener to the M12 size bolt in affected vehicles and to install warning labels for future service part kits. Nissan
then inspected and labeled vehicles with the M12 fastener prior to shipment.
March 9, 2023 – A Nissan
technician identified a discrepancy in the torque value required to secure the rear outboard seat belt anchor attachment fasteners. Nissan
initiated an investigation.
March 2023 – Nissan
conducted a yard audit of 104 vehicles and reported six (6) vehicles containing the M12 nut and fastener with a low torque values on both rear left-hand and right-hand seat belt anchor bolts. These vehicles were placed on a quality hold.
April 2023 through Early-May 2023 – Nissan
investigated the effect of the low torque setting on the rear seat belt anchor attachment points. Nissan
concluded that the lower torque setting did not meet design intent. Nissan
launched a dealer action for 10 vehicles that had been on a quality hold.
May 18, 2023 – Nissan
decided to conduct a Voluntary Safety Recall to recall all potentially affected Rogue vehicles to remedy all affected vehicles.
Nissan
is not aware of any warranty claims attributed to this condition.
Description of Corrective Action:
Dealers will be notified beginning May 26, 2023. Owners of all potentially affected vehicles will be notified beginning July 14, 2023. Dealers will inspect both left-hand and right-hand rear seat belt anchor bolts and apply the correct torque.
Additionally, Dealers will apply warning labels to the seat belt attachment points to indicate the M12 size bolt and the torque value required for any future seat belt repair. In some cases, the dealers will remove any misapplied labels. The repair should take about an hour to complete. All repairs will be performed free of charge for parts and labor.
Nissan
will not include a statement in the Part 577 owner notification concerning reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a pre-notification remedy since the subject vehicles are under warranty.

Q. What is the possible effect of this condition? A. The rear seat belt anchor fastener could loosen over time and, if a repair is conducted in the field, the recommended replacement bolt does not match the vehicle’s weld nut specification. In this condition, the seat belt fastener torque may not be sufficient resulting in the hold strength to the floor being compromised. If this occurs, there is an increased risk of rear occupant injury during a crash. Q. What will be the corrective action for this voluntary recall campaign? A. Q. How long will the corrective action take? A. This free service could take up to one (1.0) hour to complete but your Nissan
dealer may require your vehicle for a longer period of time based upon their work schedule. Q. When will vehicle owners be notified? A. Nissan
will begin sending notifications to owners of all potentially affected vehicles in July 2023, via U.S. Mail. CAMPAIGN ID: PC978/PC979 | Original Document Q. Is my vehicle safe to drive? A. If your vehicle is subject to this campaign, you will receive an Owner Notification letter from Nissan

conducted a yard audit of 104 vehicles and reported six (6) vehicles containing the M12 nut and fastener with a low torque values on both rear left-hand and right-hand seat belt anchor bolts. These vehicles were placed on a quality hold. April 2023 through Early-May 2023 – Nissan
