IF YOU CONFIRM
A knocking/metallic noise is coming from the trunk area/left or right side of the rear wheel housing area:
- While making left or right turns into driveways.
AND
- When turning into uneven/rough road areas.
ACTIONS
- It is not necessary to remove the rear tires to access the bolts.
- Tighten the bolts located on the left and right side of the rear wheel housing area.
IMPORTANT: The purpose of “ACTIONS” (above) is to give you a quick idea of the work you will be performing. You MUST closely follow the entire Service Procedure (starting on page 2) as it contains information that is essential to successfully completing this repair.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
- Using a gasket scraper or similar tool, remove the wheel housing unit undercoat off of the two (2) bolt heads (see Figure 1).

- Tighten the bolts to the following specification: torque 20.6-26.5 N•m (2.10-2.70 Kg-m, 15.2-19.5 ft. lb.)
- Apply ZRC Cold Galvanizing Compound or equivalent on the bolt heads.
- ZRC Cold Galvanizing Compound can be ordered by going online to www.ZRCworldwide.com/p_zrc.asp or by calling 1-800-831-3275.
- Remove the fuel filler tube protector to access the bolts on the right side of the rear wheel housing area (see Figure 2).
CAUTION: Make sure not to disturb the exposed fuel lines. See Figure 3.

- Repeat steps 1, 2, and 3 for the right side (see Figure 3).

- Reinstall the fuel filler tube protector.
- Confirm the incident has been resolved by test driving the vehicle.
