Driver Frontal Air Bag Inflator May Rupture
An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
Summary
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan
) is recalling certain 2007-2011 Versa Sedan and 2007-2012 Versa Hatchback vehicles.
The affected vehicles have a driver frontal air bag inflator that may rupture due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to moderate absolute humidity, temperatures, and temperature cycling.
Remedy
Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the subject inflator with a new one manufactured by a different supplier, free of charge.
Remedy parts are not currently available.
An interim owner notification letter will be sent by the end of September 2017, followed by a second letter when remedy parts are available.
Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.
Notes
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
Check if your Nissan has a Recall
And if you drive the car you may be injured or killed. So you have a vehicle you’re paying insurance for just sitting – unless you want to risk your life driving it. For me, that’s about $800 a year; much more for people with poorer driving records. In my case, I’ve wanted to sell the car (I have a new car as of late 2016) for nearly a year but cannot ethically do so. Meanwhile the car sits and loses value, and my insurance $$.
They are saying this is going to take another 6-8 month (estimate) to have parts ready and fix the problem. This is a bad
This is pretty shitty. I get a recall card today in the mail, but they’ve known about it since at least july? Thanks a lot, Jeff!
