Altima, Frontier, Kicks, Leaf, Maxima, Murano, NV, NV200, Pathfinder, Rogue, Rogue Sport, Sentra, Titan, Versa Note and Versa Sedan vehicles, as well as Infiniti
Q50, Q60, QX30 and QX80 vehicles. Additionally included are 2019 Nissan

*****Campaign Announcement*****
Nissan
Group has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of its intention to recall certain MY2018-2019 Nissan
and INFINITI
vehicles to remedy a technical noncompliance issue involving the rear visibility system.
FMVSS No. 111, Rear Visibility, requires the rear visibility system of vehicles manufactured on or after May 1, 2018 to return to a default rearview image at the beginning of each backing event regardless of any modifications the driver previously selected.
On affected vehicles, a driver may potentially adjust the rearview camera and display settings to a degree that the image is no longer visible, and the system will retain those settings at the next backing event. This condition does not meet the requirements for default view required for FMVSS No. 111.
Retailers will reprogram the rear visibility system with countermeasure software. INFINITI
is providing retailers with USB flash drive kits to standardize and expedite the repair process.
*****What Retailers Should Do*****
- Verify if vehicles are affected by this Voluntary Recall using Service Comm or DBS National Service History – Open Campaigns I.D. R1912
- New vehicles in retailer inventory can also be identified using DBS (Sales-> Vehicle Inventory, and filter by Open Campaign).
- Refer to IPSB 15-286 for additional information
- Please continue to check new arriving inventory for campaign applicability.
- Retailers must not sell, lease, trade, rent, or loan any vehicles in retailer inventory affected by this recall campaign until the vehicle has been remedied.
- Retailers should use ITB19-033 to remedy any vehicles subject to this campaign.
- Certain models may require the technician to delete Bluetooth® connected devices prior to performing the remedy. Retailers should offer to re-pair any deleted Bluetooth® connected device for the client.
NOTE: For campaign R1912 only, INFINITI
is not requiring time clocking or time stamps on this repair line.
- Upon completion, the service department should submit the applicable warranty claim for the action performed so it can be closed on SERVICE COMM.

It is the retailer’s responsibility to check Service Comm or DBS National Service History using the appropriate Campaign I.D. for the campaign status on each vehicle falling within the range of this voluntary recall campaign, which for any reason enters the service department. This includes vehicles purchased from private parties or presented by transient (tourist) owners and vehicles in new vehicle inventory. If a VIN subject to this recall campaign was part of a retailer trade, the letter associated with that VIN should be forwarded to the appropriate retailer for service completion.

- Percentage of Vehicles Estimated to Actually Contain the Noncompliance:
100%
- Description of the Noncompliance:
FMVSS No. 111, Rear Visibility, requires the rear visibility system of vehicles manufactured on or after May 1, 2018 to return to a default image at the beginning of each backing event regardless of any modifications the driver previously selected. On affected vehicles, a driver may potentially adjust the rear view camera and display settings to the degree that the image is no longer visible, and the system will retain those settings at the next backing event. This condition does not meet the requirements of S5.5.6 Default View as required by FMVSS No. 111. A temporarily reduced rear visibility when the driver has adjusted the display to this extent could lead to an increased risk of an accident in the event the driver does not re-adjust the display before reversing.
- Basis for Determination of the Existence of a Noncompliance
On December 6, 2018, the Office of Vehicle Safety Compliance (OVSC) contacted Nissan
with preliminary information concerning a General Testing Laboratories (GTL) lab test notice of failure during an FMVSS No. 111 S5.5.6 performance test of a Model Year 2019 Altima. Later that month, Nissan
visited GTL to observe the test condition and test procedure. Nissan
undertook an investigation of the test result and initiated further review and investigation of the Altima vehicle and test procedure requirements.
February 2019 – March 2019, Nissan
continued communicating with NHTSA and GTL relating to the test procedure, and whether the results, in fact, demonstrate a noncompliance. Nissan
provided updates on the status of its internal review and planned updates.
February 2019 – August 2019, Nissan
completed production changes to all affected Model Year 2019 Nissan
and INFINITI
models to address the test procedure requirements and continued developing and validating field software updates for all affected vehicles.
August 2019 – September 2019, Nissan
communicated with NHTSA on several occasions to discuss whether the results, in fact, demonstrated a noncompliance. On September 5, 2019, Nissan
decided to initiate a Voluntary Recall Campaign to remedy the subject vehicles.
- Description of Corrective Action:
Owners of the subject vehicles will be notified beginning on October 14, 2019 and concluding on or before November 11, 2019. Dealers will be notified in phases, beginning on October 15, 2019 and concluding on or before November 11, 2019. The dealer will reprogram the rear visibility system software at no cost to the owner.
We will not include a statement in the Part 577 owner notification concerning reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a pre-notification remedy as the subject vehicles are under warranty.
- Copy of Notices:
Copies of all notices will be provided to NHTSA as they become available.
