INTRODUCTION Nissan is conducting this voluntary safety recall campaign, on certain specific model year 2022 Frontier vehicles, to inspect the driver (LH) side rear seat belt buckle bracket bolts. This service will be performed at no charge to the customer for parts or labor. IDENTIFICATION NUMBER Nissan has assigned identification number PC856 to this campaign. This number must appear on all communication and documentation of any nature dealing with this campaign. DEALER RESPONSIBILITY It is the dealer’s responsibility to check Service COMM or Dealer Business Systems (DBS) National Service History for the campaign status on each vehicle falling within the range of this voluntary safety recall which for any reason enters the service department. This includes vehicles purchased from private parties or presented by transient (tourist) owners and vehicles in a dealer’s inventory. Federal law requires that new vehicles in dealer inventory which are the subject of a safety recall must be corrected prior to sale. Failure to do so can result in civil penalties by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. While federal law applies only to new vehicles, Nissan strongly encourages dealers to correct any used vehicles in their inventory before they are retailed. Nissan Bulletins are intended for use by qualified technicians, not ‘do-it-yourselfers’. Qualified technicians are properly trained individuals who have the equipment, tools, safety instruction, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. NOTE: If you believe that a described condition may apply to a particular vehicle, DO NOT assume that it does. See your Nissan dealer to determine if this applies to your vehicle. 2/6 NTB21-112 SERVICE PROCEDURE 1. Open both rear passenger doors and lift both rear seat cushions to the upright and locked position, as shown in Figure 1. 2. Locate the LH rear seat belt buckle bracket bolts (Figure 1 and Figure 2). Use the following steps to inspect both the seat belt buckle bracket bolts to determine if the bolts are fully seated. a. Visually inspect each bolt to determine if the bolts are flush with the seat belt buckle bracket. b. Attempt to turn the bolt washers by hand. c. Check for bracket looseness by pushing downward on the seat belt buckle bracket around each bolt (Figure 3). Figure 3 4. If one or both bolts:  Is not flush with the bracket, either bolt washer turns by hand, or the bracket has movement around either one of the bolts, they are not fully seated; proceed to step 5 on page 4.  Is flush, washers do not turn and the bracket does not move, both bolts are fully seated and the inspection is complete; skip to step 9 on page 5. Press downward on the bracket, around the bolts 4/6 NTB21-112 5. Using hand tools only, carefully remove and discard the bolt(s) that is not fully seated. To avoid further damage to the bolt hole threads, do not use power tools to remove the seat belt buckle bracket bolt(s). Figure 4 6. Using a tapered 10 mm – 1.25 thread tap (Figure 5), correct the bolt hole(s) thread.  Make sure the thread tap is centered in the bolt hole. IMPORTANT: If the seat belt buckle bracket or the seat frame is partially covering the bolt hole, make the necessary adjustments to the bracket to allow the thread tap to be centered in the bolt hole.  Using hand tools only, slowly screw the thread tap into the bolt hole until the body side threads are corrected (Figure 6). To avoid damage to the bolt hole threads and the thread tap, do not use power tools to drive the thread tap into the bolt hole. Figure 5 Figure 6 5/6 NTB21-112 7. Using a vacuum or similar tool, remove all debris from the bolt hole(s) before reassembly. 8. Align the seat frame and seat belt buckle bracket with the bolt hole (Figure 7), and then install a new bolt(s). To avoid damage to the bolt and bolt hole threads, do not use power tools to install the new bolt.  Thread the new bolt(s) into the bolt hole by hand for a minimum of four (4) turns.  Torque the bolt(s) to 49 N•m (5.0 kg-m, 36 ft-lb).  Verify the bolt head is flush with the seat belt buckle bracket and there is no movement of the bracket (refer to step 3 on page 3 if needed).
