Summary

NissaneBay logo North America, Inc. (NissaneBay logo) is recalling certain 2023 INFINITIeBay logo QX55 and 2022 INFINITIeBay logo QX50 vehicles. The incorrect door latch may have been installed in the front right-side passenger door lock assembly, preventing the front right-side door lock from automatically locking.

 

Remedy

Dealers will replace the front right-side passenger door lock assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 14, 2023. Owners may contact NissaneBay logo’s customer service at 1-800-867-7669. NissaneBay logo’s number for this recall is PC962.

INFINITIeBay logo is committed to the safety and security of our clients and their passengers. INFINITIeBay logo has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that it is recalling certain MY2022 INFINITIeBay logo QX50 and MY2023 INFINITIeBay logo QX55 vehicles to replace the affected front passenger door lock.

Certain MY2022 INFINITIeBay logo QX50 and MY2023 INFINITIeBay logo QX55 vehicles may have an incorrect front passenger door lock installed.  Due to a supplier material handling concern that has since been corrected, incorrect  door locks were inadvertently loaded into the door lock assembly line.  As a result of this issue, the front passenger door might not remain latched during a crash, thus increasing the risk of injury to the occupant.

Affected vehicles are subject to stop sale.

It is the retailer’s responsibility to check Service Comm or DBS National Service History – Open Campaign using the appropriate Campaign I.D. for the campaign status on each vehicle falling within the range of this voluntary safety recall campaign, which for any reason enters the service department.  This includes vehicles purchased from private parties or presented by transient (tourist) owners and vehicles in retailer inventory.  If a VIN subject to this recall campaign was part of a retailer trade, the letter associated with that VIN should be forwarded to the appropriate retailer for service completion.

INFINITIeBay logo will begin notifying owners of all potentially affected vehicles in May 2023 via U.S. Mail.

 

Is my vehicle safe to drive?

If your vehicle is subject to this campaign, you will receive an Owner Notification letter from INFINITIeBay logo, which will provide instructions on how to remedy your vehicle. Affected owners are encouraged to have their vehicles remedied as soon as possible upon notification.

 

Is there anything owners can do to mitigate this condition?

If your vehicle is subject to this campaign, INFINITIeBay logo recommends you contact your local INFINITIeBay logo retailer to have the front passenger door lock replaced.

 

Are parts readily available?

Yes.

 

Is there any charge for the repair?

No. The remedy will be performed for the client free of charge for parts and labor.

 

Will a courtesy vehicle be provided while the retailer is servicing the vehicle?

INFINITIeBay logo may provide a courtesy vehicle for the client to use while their vehicle is being serviced. Courtesy vehicles are subject to availability and not guaranteed. Please check with your retailer for availability and further details. Rental is available, upon client request, while parts are on order.

The remedy will fully correct this condition. As the condition will be corrected, there is no basis for repurchasing or replacing your vehicle.

 

What model year vehicles are involved?

Certain specific 2022 INFINITIeBay logo QX50 vehicles manufactured between June 27, 2022 to August 9, 2022 and certain specific 2023 INFINITIeBay logo QX55 vehicles manufactured between July 26, 2022 to August 9, 2022 may be affected.

Description of the Defect:

On certain INFINITIeBay logo QX55 and QX50 vehicles, the incorrect door latch may have been installed in the front right-hand door lock assembly. Due to a material handling error at the supplier, the incorrect latch was loaded into the door lock production line. As a result, the front right-hand passenger door lock will not automatically lock. If the incorrect door lock assembly is installed, the latch may unlock during a crash event, potentially increasing the risk of injury to the occupant.

 

Chronology of Principal Events:

August 9, 2022 – During a routine plant quality audit, a technician noticed the door lock on a Model Year 2023 INFINITIeBay logo QX55 vehicle did not remain locked when the automatic door lock is applied. NissaneBay logo initiated containment measures and immediately began an investigation.

August 2022 through September 2022 – NissaneBay logo and the supplier conducted yard audits totaling 585 vehicles and identified forty (40) front right-hand passenger door lock assemblies with the subject condition.

The supplier continued investigation of the issue and determined that door latches specified for the China market were inadvertently used for the door lock assembly line for U.S. market.

After the supplier’s determination, NissaneBay logo initiated a safety assessment to evaluate the impact of an incorrect door latch on the operation of the front passenger door lock assembly.

October 2022 through December 2022 – Initial analysis of the subject latches showed the incorrect specification may cause a reduction in the necessary resistance to the force required for the door latch to open.

NissaneBay logo’s initial Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) modeling, which was intended to determine how the reduction in resistance of the China market latch affected the door lock performance during a crash, was inconclusive.

As such, NissaneBay logo started initial preparations to conduct a vehicle test to evaluate the subject latch performance during a crash.

January 2023 through February 2023 – During preparations to conduct vehicle testing, NissaneBay logo elected to use engineering judgment. NissaneBay logo determined that the reduction in resistance required for the door latch to open represented a potential risk to safety, if the door lock were to open during a crash.

March 13, 2023 – Based on engineering judgement and out of an abundance of caution, NissaneBay logo decided to conduct a Voluntary Safety Recall, to remedy all potentially affected vehicles.

NissaneBay logo is not aware of any warranty claims attributed to this condition.

 

Description of Corrective Action:

Dealers will be notified beginning March 21, 2023. Owners of all potentially affected vehicles will be notified beginning May 14, 2023. Dealers will replace the front right-hand passenger door lock assembly. All repairs will be performed free of charge for parts and labor and may take up to one (1) hour to complete.

NissaneBay logo will not include a statement in the Part 577 owner notification concerning reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a pre-notification remedy since the subject vehicles are under warranty.
