Front Passenger Brake Tube Replacement

WARNING

To avoid the risk of death or severe personal injury:

  • Do not allow the reservoir tank to empty, as this may cause damage to the master cylinder internal components or the brake system.

  • Do not allow foreign matter (e.g. dust and oils other than brake fluid) to enter the ABS Actuator or Master Cylinder reservoir tank.

NOTICE

To avoid damage to the vehicle:

  • Do not spill or splash brake fluid on painted surfaces. Brake fluid may seriously damage paint. Wipe it off immediately and wash with water if it gets on a painted surface.

  • All hoses and piping (tubes) must be free from excessive bending, twisting, and pulling.

  • Make sure there is no interference with other parts when turning steering both clockwise and counterclockwise.

  1. Disengage the upper brake tube retainer.

  1. Disengage the lower brake tube retainer.

  1. Using a flare nut wrench, loosen and separate the front passenger brake tube flare nut from the ABS actuator.

  1. Lift the vehicle to a suitable height, and then remove the front passenger wheel and tire assembly.

  1. Using a flare nut wrench, loosen and separate the brake tube flare nut from the brake hose.

  1. Carefully disengage the front passenger brake tube from the brake tube retainer.

  1. Lower the brake tube down, toward the rear of the front passenger drive shaft assembly, as shown in Figure 8.

  1. Lower the vehicle down enough to allow access to both ends of the front passenger brake tube.

  1. Move the under hood end of the front passenger brake tube away from the ABS actuator and route under the A/C line.

  1. Remove the front passenger brake tube from the vehicle wheel well, as shown in Figure 10.

  1. Install a new front passenger brake tube in the reverse order of removal.

  1. Torque both front passenger brake tube flare nuts to 16.2 N•m (1.7 kg-m, 12 ft-lb).

  1. Bleed the brake system.

  1. Inspect for brake fluid leaks.
  • Refer to the ESM: BRAKES > BRAKE SYSTEM > REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION > FRONT BRAKE PIPING > Inspection after Installation

  1. Install the front passenger wheel and tire assembly.
  • Wheel nut torque: 120 N•m (12 kg-m, 89 ft-lb)

  1. Remove the protective cover from the RH fender and close the hood.
