VOLUNTARY SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN
2023 LEAF; FRONT PASSENGER BRAKE TUBE
CAMPAIGN ID #: | PC976 |
APPLIED VEHICLES: | 2023 LEAF (ZE1) |
INTRODUCTION
Nissan is conducting this voluntary safety recall campaign, on certain specific model year 2023 LEAF vehicles, to inspect and, if necessary, replace the front passenger (RH) side brake tube. This service will be performed at no charge to the customer for parts or labor.
IDENTIFICATION NUMBER
Nissan has assigned identification number PC976 to this campaign. This number must appear on all communication and documentation of any nature dealing with this campaign.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Front Passenger Brake Tube Inspection
- Open the hood and place a protective cover over the RH fender.
- Locate the ABS actuator on the passenger side of the vehicle.
- Using a mirror, inspect the entire length of the under-hood portion of the front passenger brake tube for pinches, gouges, scrapes, or abrasions around the entire circumference of the brake tube.
- If NO pinches, gouges, scrapes, or abrasions are found on the brake tube, no further action is needed. Skip to CLAIMS INFORMATION on last page.
- If the brake tube has any pinches, gouges, scrapes, or abrasions, continue to step 4 for front passenger brake tube replacement.
- Place the vehicle on a suitable lift.
Front Passenger Brake Tube Replacement
WARNING
To avoid the risk of death or severe personal injury:
- Do not allow the reservoir tank to empty, as this may cause damage to the master cylinder internal components or the brake system.
- Do not allow foreign matter (e.g. dust and oils other than brake fluid) to enter the ABS Actuator or Master Cylinder reservoir tank.
NOTICE
To avoid damage to the vehicle:
- Do not spill or splash brake fluid on painted surfaces. Brake fluid may seriously damage paint. Wipe it off immediately and wash with water if it gets on a painted surface.
- Do not depress brake pedal while removing the brake hose or brake tube. If this is not complied with, brake fluid may splash.
- If the brake fluid or grease adheres to the disc rotor, quickly wipe it off.
- All hoses and piping (tubes) must be free from excessive bending, twisting, and pulling.
- Make sure there is no interference with other parts when turning steering both clockwise and counterclockwise.
- Disengage the upper brake tube retainer.
- Disengage the lower brake tube retainer.
- Using a flare nut wrench, loosen and separate the front passenger brake tube flare nut from the ABS actuator.
- Lift the vehicle to a suitable height, and then remove the front passenger wheel and tire assembly.
- Lower the brake tube down, toward the rear of the front passenger drive shaft assembly, as shown in Figure 8.
- Lower the vehicle down enough to allow access to both ends of the front passenger brake tube.
- Move the under hood end of the front passenger brake tube away from the ABS actuator and route under the A/C line.
- Install a new front passenger brake tube in the reverse order of removal.
- Torque both front passenger brake tube flare nuts to 16.2 N•m (1.7 kg-m, 12 ft-lb).
- Bleed the brake system.
- Refer to the ESM: BRAKES > BRAKE SYSTEM > PERIODIC MAINTENANCE > BRAKE FLUID > BRAKE FLUID: Air Bleeding > Bleeding Brake System
- Inspect for brake fluid leaks.
- Refer to the ESM: BRAKES > BRAKE SYSTEM > REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION > FRONT BRAKE PIPING > Inspection after Installation
- Install the front passenger wheel and tire assembly.
- Wheel nut torque: 120 N•m (12 kg-m, 89 ft-lb)
- Remove the protective cover from the RH fender and close the hood.
- Remove the vehicle from the lift.

Classification: Reference: Date: BR23-002 NTB23-045 May 22, 2023 Bulletins are intended for use by qualified technicians, not ‘do-it-yourselfers’. Qualified technicians are properly trained individuals who have the equipment, tools, safety instruction, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. NOTE: If you believe that a described condition may apply to a particular vehicle, DO NOT assume that it does. See your Nissan dealer to determine if this applies to your vehicle. 1/8 VOLUNTARY SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN 2023 LEAF; FRONT PASSENGER BRAKE TUBE CAMPAIGN ID #: PC976 APPLIED VEHICLES: 2023 LEAF (ZE1) Check Service COMM or Dealer Business Systems (DBS) National Service History to confirm campaign eligibility. has assigned identification number PC976 to this campaign. This number must appear on all communication and documentation of any nature dealing with this campaign. DEALER RESPONSIBILITY It is the dealer’s responsibility to check Service COMM or Dealer Business Systems (DBS) National Service History for the campaign status on each vehicle falling within the range of this voluntary safety recall which for any reason enters the service department. This includes vehicles purchased from private parties or presented by transient (tourist) owners and vehicles in a dealer’s inventory. Federal law requires that new vehicles in dealer inventory which are the subject of a safety recall must be corrected prior to sale. Failure to do so can result in civil penalties by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. While federal law applies only to new vehicles, Nissan
strongly encourages dealers to correct any used vehicles in their inventory before they are retailed. 2/8 NTB23-045 SERVICE PROCEDURE Front Passenger Brake Tube Inspection 1.
