***** Campaign Summary *****
Nissan is committed to the safety and security of our customers and their passengers. Nissan
has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that it is recalling certain specific MY2023 Nissan
LEAF vehicles to address a potential brake tube issue.
Due to a supplier tooling issue, the right hand brake tube may have been scratched or deformed during the tube bending process. Over time, the affected vehicles may develop a brake fluid leak that could result in reduced braking performance. This condition could potentially lead to extended stopping distance without prior warning, which could increase risk of a crash.
Dealers will inspect the right hand brake tube and, if necessary, replace the brake tube.
***** What Dealers Should Do****
- Verify if vehicles are affected by this Voluntary Recall Campaign using Service Comm or DBS National Service History Campaign I.D.
- Dealers must not sell, lease, trade, rent, or loan any vehicles in dealer inventory affected by this recall campaign until after the vehicle has been repaired.
- Dealers should use NTB23-045 to remedy any vehicles subject to this campaign.
- Once remedied, dealers should submit the claim, using the claims coding provided, and release the vehicle.

Description of the Defect:
Certain right-hand brake tubes may have been damaged due to incorrect tool clamping that occurred during a limited production run at the supplier. Over time, the damaged brake tube may become corroded which could lead to a hole in the brake line. If this occurs, the affected vehicles may develop a brake fluid leak that could result in reduced braking performance. Reduced braking performance can potentially lead to extended stopping distance without prior warning, which could increase the risk of a crash.
Chronology of Principal Events:
January 13, 2023 – A Nissan technician discovered damage on a right-hand brake tube assembly system being installed on a MY 2023 Nissan
LEAF. Nissan
collected the part and began an investigation.
January 27, 2023 – Nissan and the supplier conducted a parts audit of 975 brake assemblies and discovered damage on twenty-five (25) right-hand brake tubes at the actuator connection bend. Additionally, Nissan
conducted a yard audit of 395 vehicles and reported five (5) with a scratched or damaged right hand brake tube. These parts were quarantined and the vehicles were put on a quality hold.
February 3, 2023 – The supplier’s investigation determined that incorrect tooling was used to align the brake tube into the pipe bending jig. Because the brake tube was misaligned, the tooling clamped the pipe in the incorrect position and caused scratching and in some cases deformation of the tube at the actuator bend.
February 2023 through April 2023 – Concurrently, Nissan investigated the impact of the damaged brake tube condition. As part of the assessment, Nissan
performed corrosion and stress tests on two (2) of the worst case condition parts to evaluate the effect of the damaged brake tube on brake performance over time. Nissan
concluded that the brake performance could be degraded and could lead to extended stopping distances possibly without prior warning.
May 15, 2023 – Nissan decided to conduct a Voluntary Safety Recall to recall all potentially affected LEAF vehicles to inspect the right-hand brake tube and replace any damaged brake tube assemblies.
Nissan is not aware of any warranty claims attributed to this condition. Nissan
is also not aware of any reported accidents or injuries.
Description of Corrective Action:
Dealers will be notified beginning May 23, 2023. Owners of all potentially affected vehicles will be notified beginning July 7, 2023. Dealers will be instructed to inspect the right-hand brake tube for damage and, if necessary, replace the affected brake tube. All repairs will be performed free of charge for parts and labor and may take up to one (1) hour to complete if brake tube replacement is required.
Nissan will not include a statement in the Part 577 owner notification concerning reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a pre-notification remedy since the subject vehicles are under warranty.
