INTRODUCTION Nissan is conducting this voluntary safety recall campaign on certain specific model year 2022 Sentra vehicles to reseal the driver side cowl, inspect the E7-M37 harness connector for water intrusion or corrosion, and if necessary, replace the engine room harness and main harness. This service will be performed at no charge to the customer for parts or labor. IDENTIFICATION NUMBER Nissan has assigned identification number PMA21 to this campaign. This number must appear on all communication and documentation of any nature dealing with this campaign. DEALER RESPONSIBILITY It is the dealer’s responsibility to check Service COMM or Dealer Business Systems (DBS) National Service History for the campaign status on each vehicle falling within the range of this voluntary safety recall which for any reason enters the service department. This includes vehicles purchased from private parties or presented by transient (tourist) owners and vehicles in a dealer’s inventory. Federal law requires that new vehicles in dealer inventory which are the subject of a safety recall must be corrected prior to sale. Failure to do so can result in civil penalties by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. While federal law applies only to new vehicles, Nissan strongly encourages dealers to correct any used vehicles in their inventory before they are retailed. 2/24 NTB23-050 REQUIRED SUPPLIES Figure 1  Seam Sealer: LORD Fusor 800DTM OR 3M Urethane Seam Sealer #08368. o LORD Fusor PN 999MP9G000P is available through the Nissan Maintenance Advantage program. o Both LORD Fusor 800DTM and 3M Urethane Seam Sealer #08368 can be purchased at Bodyshop Supply Retailers or some Auto Parts Suppliers.  Flat Brush: 1” size or #10. o Flat Brushes can be purchased through Dollar type stores, large retail chain stores or craft stores. 3/24 NTB23-050 SERVICE PROCEDURE Figure 3 Figure 4 1. Mark the location of the wiper arm assemblies on the windshield (Figure 2 and Figure 3).  Use a white or yellow China pencil/grease marker or equivalent. Figure 2 2. Place fender protection on both front fenders. 4. Remove the wiper arm assemblies (Figure 6 and Figure 7). a. Remove both wiper nut caps. b. Remove both 14 mm wiper nuts. Remove the driver (LH) and the passenger (RH) cowl top side trim covers (Figure 8, Figure 9 and Figure 10). Remove the cowl top assembly (Figure 11). a. Remove the six (6) retaining clips. b. Gently remove the cowl top assembly making sure to not damage the windshield edge. Figure 11 7. Disconnect the wiper motor harness connector (Figure 12).  Tuck the wiper motor harness connector under the cowl, as shown in Figure 13. Remove the wiper drive assembly (Figure 14). a. Remove the three (3) 10 mm retaining bolts, as shown in Figure 14. b. Remove the wiper drive assembly and set it aside. Figure 14 9. Locate the driver (LH) side cowl joint seams to be resealed, as shown in Figure 15 and Figure 16.  Figure 15 shows the general area of the driver (LH) side strut/cowl area.  Figure 16 is seen by looking down the windshield toward the engine bay under the open hood. Prepare the seam sealer.  If using 3M 08368 Urethane Seam Sealer, remove cartridge seal from the bottom of the cartridge tube.  Puncture the top end of the seam sealer cartridge tube (threaded outlet).  Install the applicator nozzle.  Insert the cartridge tube into an appropriate caulking gun.  Make sure to read and understand all instructions, precautions, and warnings on the cartridge tube of the seam sealer. 10. Prepare the cowl area for application of the seam sealer (Figure 17).  Using a clean lint-free cloth and warm soapy water, clean the area to be resealed.  Use compressed air to dry the area after cleaning. Using the brush with the seam sealer on it, apply the seam sealer to the joint seams identified in Figure 19. Figure 19  Use a brush angle of 30-45 degrees to smooth the seam sealer. Figure 20  Brush the seam sealer into the joint seams, as shown in Figure 21.  Repeat this process until the seams identified in Figure 19 are completely sealed. Figure 22  Once the seam sealer application is complete, allow the seam sealer to dry for 30 minutes. Figure 23 11/24 NTB23-050 IMPORTANT: Prior to cowl top installation, use a clean, damp cloth to clean the joint between the cowl top cover and the windshield. 14. Install the wiper drive assembly.  Torque the wiper drive assembly bolts in the sequence shown in Figure 24. o Wiper drive assembly bolt torque: 8.0 N•m (0.82 kg-m, 71 in-lb) Figure 24 15. Reconnect the wiper motor harness connector (Figure 25). Figure 25 16. Install the cowl top assembly (Figure 26). a. Carefully slide the cowl top onto the bottom of the windshield using care to not damage the thirteen (13) positioning clips that are positioned under the windshield edge. b. Install the driver (LH) and the passenger (RH) cowl top side trim covers (Figure 27 and Figure 28). Figure 27 18. Install the wiper arm assemblies (Figure 29 and Figure 7 on page 4). a. Position both wiper arm assemblies to the location marks on the windshield. b. Install the 14 mm wiper nuts. o Wiper nut torque: 23.6 N•m (2.4 kg-m, 17 ft-lb) c. Install the wiper nut caps. Stow the hood prop rod to the retainer clip and close the hood. 21. Remove the reference marks on the windshield that were made before disassembly. Figure 30 22. Verify the wipers operate correctly. 14/24 NTB23-050 CHECK HARNESS CONNECTOR E7-M37 FOR WATER INTRUSION OR CORROSION HINT: The fender protector will need to be positioned multiple times during the procedure to protect the door sill paint. Using a suitable tool, remove the hood release handle.  Gently pry the middle of the hood release handle to release it. 26. Remove the dash side finisher.  Remove the plastic nut from the upper corner.  Disengage the two (2) retaining clips and remove the dash side finisher. 27. Using a suitable tool, unlatch the E7-M37 harness connector bracket retaining clip.  Push both latches toward the center while lifting the harness connector bracket away from the A pillar.  Use care to not break the harness connector bracket clips. 29. Remove the E7-M37 harness connector from the lower A pillar.  Remove the left side first, then pivot the harness connector to remove the right side. Using a suitable tool, release the E7 harness connector lock. b. Using your fingers, continue to pull the lock down to the bottom of the harness connector. Remove the engine room harness side of the E7-M37 harness connector and turn it around to visually inspect the main harness pins. 32. Visually inspect BOTH sides of the E7-M37 harness connector for water intrusion or corrosion (Figure 42 and Figure 43).  If no water intrusion or corrosion was found, continue to step 35 on page 20.  If water intrusion or corrosion WAS found, replace the engine room harness and the main harness. Contact FQA with the required information in step 34. 34. A response will be provided within 48 business hours. Release the tabs at the top and bottom of the harness connector bracket. b. Move the E7-M37 harness connector lock to the middle position. c. With the tabs released, pull the harness connector bracket forward to remove it from the M37 harness connector. d. Install the new harness connector bracket in reverse order of removal. 36. Install the E7 connector to the M37 connector.  The lock must be in the full down position to seat the connector halves. Move the E7-M37 harness connector lock to the full up position to lock it. 38. Install the E7-M37 harness connector assembly into the lower A pillar.  Install the right side first, then install the harness connector bracket retainer in the A pillar. Install the dash side finisher.  Seat the two (2) retaining clips.  Install the plastic nut in the upper corner of the dash side finisher. 40. Install the hood release handle.  Push the hood release handle on until it locks into the retaining clip. 41. Install the driver (LH) side front kicking plate.
