As previously announced on March 18, 2020, INFINITI
has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that it will conduct a Voluntary Recall Campaign on certain MY2020 INFINITI
Q60 vehicles to inspect the manufacturing date on the rear seat belt tags and replace the right hand, left hand, or both seat belt retractor assemblies if they were manufactured within the affected production period.
Due to a manufacturing process issue that has since been corrected, the left-hand and right-hand rear seat belt assemblies on some of the affected vehicles may have been manufactured out of specification. In certain cases of severe, multi-impact crashes, an affected rear seat belt assembly may not properly restrain the passenger, increasing the risk of injury.

- Verify if vehicles are affected by this Voluntary Safety Recall Campaign using Service Comm or DBS National Service History – Open Campaign D. R20A5
- New vehicles in retailer inventory can also be identified using DBS (Sales -> Vehicle Inventory, and filter by Open Campaign)
- Refer to IPSB 15-286 for additional information
- Retailers must not sell, lease, trade, rent or loan any vehicles in retailer inventory affected by this recall campaign until after the vehicle has been repaired.
- Retailers should not use INFINITI
Courtesy Vehicles subject to this recall until they have been inspected, and if necessary, repaired.
- Retailers should use ITB20-012 to inspect and, if necessary, remedy affected vehicles in retailer inventory. Once repaired, retailers should submit the claim, using the claims coding provided for the applicable action taken, and release the vehicle.

will notify them by mail in May 2020 if their vehicle is affected and instruct them to contact an authorized INFINITI
retailer to inspect their vehicle.
Q. Is my vehicle safe to drive?
A. If your vehicle is subject to this campaign, you will receive an Owner Notification letter from INFINITI
, which will provide instructions on how to remedy your vehicle. Affected owners are encouraged to have their vehicles inspected, and if necessary, repaired as soon as possible upon notification.
Q. Is there anything owners can do to mitigate this condition?
A. Yes. In the meantime, do not allow passengers to ride in the rear seats until the inspection and, if necessary, remedy has been performed.
Q. Is there any charge for the repair?
A. No, the inspection and remedy, if necessary, will be performed for the client free of charge for parts and labor.

INTRODUCTION
Infiniti
is conducting this voluntary safety recall campaign on certain specific model year 2020 Q60 vehicles to inspect, and if necessary, replace one or both rear seat belts. This service will be performed at no charge to the customer for parts or labor.
IDENTIFICATION NUMBER
Infiniti
has assigned identification number R20A5 to this campaign. This number must appear on all communication and documentation of any nature dealing with this campaign.
RETAILER RESPONSIBILITY
It is the retailer’s responsibility to check Service COMM or Dealer Business Systems (DBS) National Service History for the campaign status on each vehicle falling within the range of this voluntary safety recall which for any reason enters the service department. This includes vehicles purchased from private parties or presented by transient (tourist) owners and vehicles in a retailer’s inventory. Federal law requires that new vehicles in retailer inventory which are the subject of a safety recall must be corrected prior to sale. Failure to do so can result in civil penalties by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. While federal law applies only to new vehicles, Infiniti
strongly encourages retailers to correct any used vehicles in their inventory before they are retailed.
REPAIR OVERVIEW
SERVICE PROCEDURE
In the following steps the passenger side is shown. The driver side is similar.
- Remove the rear seat cushion.
- For seat cushion removal, refer to the Electronic Service Manual (ESM): Section
REPAIR > BODY INTERIOR > SEAT > REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION > REAR SEAT CUSHION.
- Locate the date codes on the driver side and the passenger side seat belts, and write them on the repair order.
HINT: The date code label is sewn onto the seat belt near the bolt anchor.
- Confirm if the passenger side date code is in Table A (below) and, if so, circle the date code on the repair order.
- Confirm if the driver side date code is in Table A (below) and, if so, circle the date code on the repair order.
- If neither date code was circled in step 3 or step 4, skip to step 17, otherwise proceed to step 6.

IMPORTANT
In the following steps:
- Replace only the seat belt, or belts, that the date code was circled on the repair order.
- The passenger side is shown as a reference only. If the driver side seat belt is being replaced, reference the passenger side figures.
- Replace only one seat belt at a time.
- Remove the inner kicking plate.
- Gently pull the body side welt away from the rear side finisher.
- Pull the body side welt toward the front of the vehicle.
HINT: Remove just enough to allow the rear side finisher to be removed.
- Remove the rear side finisher.
- For rear side finisher removal, refer to the ESM: Section REPAIR > BODY INTERIOR > INTERIOR > REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION > REAR SIDE FINISHER
- Do not remove the seat back.
HINT: The seat back will be folded down to allow the rear of the rear side finisher to be detached.
- Remove the seat belt finisher.
- Detach the two (2) rear pillar finisher clips shown in Figure 11 and Figure 12.
HINT: This will provide clearance to allow the seat belt to be removed.
IMPORTANT: Do Not remove the rear pillar finisher from the vehicle. If it is removed, it must be replaced, which is not included as part of the repair.
- Remove the mounting anchor bolt of the seat belt retractor assembly.
- Remove the mounting anchor bolt of the shoulder anchor.
- Remove the lap outer anchor plate mounting anchor bolt.
- Remove the rear seat belt assembly.
- Install the new seat belt in the reverse order of disassembly.
- See the PARTS INFORMATION on page 8.
- Torque for all seat belt anchor bolts: 49 N•m (5.0 kg-m, 36 ft-lb)
- If the remaining rear seat belt requires replacement, perform steps 6-15 to replace it, and then proceed to step 17.
- Reassemble the remaining components in the reverse order of disassembly.

- Description of the Defect:
The subject vehicles are equipped with rear seat belt assemblies (LH and RH) that have a dual locking mechanism, consisting of a webbing sensor and a Gsensor. Due to a supplier manufacturing issue that has since been corrected, a specific spring inside the redundant webbing sensor may be installed in an incorrect position. In this condition, the spring could interfere with another component within the webbing sensor mechanism causing it to malfunction. In certain cases of severe, multi-impact crashes, if the G-sensor is damaged during an initial impact, the webbing sensor may not lock and restrain the passenger properly; increasing the risk of injury.
- Chronology of Principal Events:
September 2019 through October 2019 – JSS notified Nissan
of the potential issue with the webbing sensor lock function on certain rear seat belt assemblies. Nissan
understood that JSS had not determined that there was an unreasonable risk to safety because the webbing sensor was a redundant system to the Gsensor. Nissan
plant quality inspections had not identified any concerns with the subject parts. Nissan
conducted an internal assessment of the issue and determined the potential condition was not a non-compliance with FMVSS nor an unreasonable risk to safety. Nissan
decided to monitor the condition.
December 2019 through February 2020 – Nissan
reviewed Defect Information Reports reflecting other OEMs’ individual determinations to recall their vehicles equipped with affected seat belt assemblies. After further internal review and discussions with JSS, Nissan
confirmed it had no reports or claims and continued to monitor the condition.
February 28, 2020 – JSS Global PSC reportedly decided that given that these OEM submissions covered components supplied to multiple customers, submission of an equipment defect report was appropriate. JSS notified Nissan
of its decision to recall.
March 9, 2020 – Based on the foregoing action by JSS, and out of an abundance of caution, Nissan
decided to conduct a voluntary safety recall to remedy the affected vehicles. Nissan
has received no reports or warranty claims that relate to the subject condition.
- Description of Corrective Action:
Owners of the subject vehicles will be notified beginning in early May. Dealers will receive preliminary notification on March 18, 2020. Dealers received final notification on March 25, 2020. The dealer will inspect the manufacturing date of the rear seat belt assemblies on affected vehicles and replace the right hand, left hand, or both assemblies with a new part if they were manufactured within the affected range, at no cost to the owner.
Nissan
will not include a statement in the Part 577 owner notification concerning reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a pre-notification remedy for the subject condition, as the vehicles are still under warranty. Your office will be provided with a copy of the Part 577 owner notification for approval.
