Nissan
North America, Inc. (Nissan
) is recalling certain 2022 Frontier vehicles. The seat belt bracket mounting bolts on the left-rear seat may have been incorrectly tightened. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 207, “Seating Systems,” 209, “Seatbelt Assemblies,” and 210, “Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages.”
Remedy
Dealers will replace the bolts on the left-rear seat and repair any damaged threads as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were January 27, 2022. Owners may contact Nissan
customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan
’s number for this recall is PC856.

is committed to the safety and security of our customers and their passengers. Nissan
has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that the previously announced quality action (PC849) is being reclassified and expanded as a Voluntary Safety Recall Campaign. Dealers will inspect the bolts on the left rear seat and replace if necessary. If the threads are damaged, the dealer will repair the damaged threads before replacing the bolts.
Certain mounting bolts for the seat belt bracket on the left rear seat may not have been torqued to specification and may be loose. In the worst case condition, in the event of a crash, the seat belt bracket could break, increasing the risk of loss of seat belt restraint and increased injury. In this condition, the seat belt bracket would not comply with certain FMVSS requirements for Seating Systems and Seat Belts.

PC856 – Seat Belt Bracket May Break – 2022 Nissan Frontier
Chronology :
September 4, 2021 – During a routine yard audit, a Nissan
technician found a loose washer on the seat belt buckle bracket for the left rear seat of a MY2022 Frontier vehicle. Nissan
inspected the incident vehicle and determined that the bolt had been cross-threaded during installation, preventing it from being torqued to specification. Nissan
launched an internal investigation.
September 2021 through October 2021 – It was discovered that during the bolt installation process for the affected bracket, the operator did not follow standard operating procedure following a tooling error. Nissan
conducted an audit on 2,987 Frontier vehicles at the Canton, TN plant. According to production tooling records, 196 of these vehicles were produced during the time period the tooling error occurred. Out of the 196 vehicles, 25 were found with the subject condition. No other vehicles were found with the subject condition. Nissan
repaired the 25 vehicles and implemented a plant countermeasure to prevent the issue from reoccurring.
On October 6, 2021, Nissan
issued a quality hold for 169 potentially affected vehicles in dealer inventory. This action was upgraded to a Quality Action on October 8, 2021, for dealers to inspect and replace any affected bolts.
November 2021 – Nissan
conducted a safety assessment to evaluate the regulatory impact of having a loose bolt on the seat belt bracket. In the worst case condition, in the event of a crash, the seat belt bracket could break.
December 2, 2021 – Nissan
decided to conduct a Voluntary Recall to inspect the all potentially affected vehicles and repair if necessary.
Nissan
is not aware of any warranty claims attributed to the subject condition.

technician found a loose washer on the seat belt buckle bracket for the left rear seat of a MY2022 Frontier vehicle. Nissan
inspected the incident vehicle and determined that the bolt had been cross-threaded during installation, preventing it from being torqued to specification. Nissan
launched an internal investigation. September 2021 through October 2021 – It was discovered that during the bolt installation process for the affected bracket, the operator did not follow standard operating procedure following a tooling error. Nissan
conducted an audit on 2,987 Frontier vehicles at the Canton, TN plant. According to production tooling records, 196 of these vehicles were produced during the time period the tooling error occurred. Out of the 196 vehicles, 25 were found with the subject condition. No other vehicles were found with the subject condition. Nissan
repaired the 25 vehicles and implemented a plant countermeasure to prevent the issue from reoccurring. On October 6, 2021, Nissan
issued a quality hold for 169 potentially affected vehicles in dealer inventory. This action was upgraded to a Quality Action on October 8, 2021, for dealers to inspect and replace any affected bolts. November 2021 – Nissan
conducted a safety assessment to evaluate the regulatory impact of having a loose bolt on the seat belt bracket. In the worst case condition, in the event of a crash, the seat belt bracket could break. December 2, 2021 – Nissan
decided to conduct a Voluntary Recall to inspect the all potentially affected vehicles and repair if necessary. Nissan
is not aware of any warranty claims attributed to the subject condition. will not include a statement in the Part 577 owner notification concerning reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a pre-notification remedy for the subject vehicles because they are still under warranty.
