VOLUNTARY SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN 2021 Nissan Rogue; Fuel Pump Assembly
R21B8 – Fuel Pump May Overheat – 2021 Nissan Rogue
Chronology :
March 2021 through April 2021 – Nissan
learned of initial field reports that alleged fuel pump failure involving a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) “ON” and engine stall while driving. Nissan
initiated an investigation into the incident and identified additional related field reports.
May 2021 through July 2021 – Nissan
initiated a returned parts investigation to collect subject parts from the field and perform duplication testing to identify the scope of the issue. The supplier also conducted a field investigation and process check.
August 2021 through September 2021 – Nissan
studied the failure modes of the fuel pump and identified conditions that may lead to an engine stall while driving.
October 6, 2021 through November 2021 – Nissan
discussed the ongoing investigation with NHTSA and reviewed a field claims check for U.S. market that identified 87 warranty claims alleging engine stall while driving between March 2021 and October 2021. No accidents or injuries were reported.
Working with the supplier, Nissan
determined that the issue was caused by an operator assembly error during production of the fuel pump. Nissan
worked with the supplier to determine the root cause of the subject condition and identify the potentially affected fuel pumps and VINs.
December 2, 2021 – Nissan
decided to recall all potentially affected vehicles to replace the fuel pump module.
