Summary
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan
) is recalling certain 2019-2021 Altima and 2020-2021 Sentra vehicles. Damage to the camera harness can cause distortion or loss of the rearview camera display image. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, “Rear Visibility.”
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the rearview camera and harness for damage and replace them as necessary. If no damage is found, the dealer will apply protective tape and reroute the rearview camera harness. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 19, 2023. Owners may contact Nissan’s customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan

Nissan is committed to the safety and security of our customers and their passengers. Nissan
has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that it is issuing a Voluntary Safety Recall Campaign on certain MY2020-2021 Sentra and MY2019-2021 Altima Platinum trim level vehicles identified in Service Comm and DBS National Service History.
Over time, the rear view camera harness connector within the affected vehicles could become damaged from harness movement and vibration during vehicle operation. If the rear view camera connector terminals become damaged, the backup camera display image could become blurry, distorted, multicolored or blank screen. If this condition occurs, it may not comply with FMVSS 111 s.5.5 Rear Visibility. If the rear view image is not available, rearward visibility may be reduced, potentially increasing the risk of a crash.
The dealer will inspect the function of the rear view camera. If the rear view camera harness is damaged, the dealer will replace the rear view camera and harness assembly. If not damaged, the dealer will apply protective tape and reroute the rearview camera harness to prevent the harness from being damaged.

Description of the Noncompliance:
Due to the design of the rear view camera harness and its specific routing within the affected vehicles, the harness may become damaged from movement and vibrations during vehicle operation. Over time, damage to the harness can result in the degradation of the rear view camera display image, leading to issues such as blurriness, distortion, multi-colored imagery, or in some cases, a blank screen.
This condition may not meet the requirements of 55.5 of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 111; Rear Visibility. If the rear view image is not available, rearward visibility may be reduced, potentially increasing the risk of a crash.
Basis for Determination of the Existence of a Noncompliance:
Chronology will be supplemented.
Description of Corrective Action:
Dealers will be notified on September 12, 2023. owners of all potentially affected vehicles will be notified beginning October 19, 2023 and ending on October 26, 2023.
Dealers will inspect the function of the rear view camera. If the rear view camera harness is damaged, the dealer will replace the rear view camera and harness assembly. If no damage is found, the dealer will apply protective tape and reroute the rear view camera harness. All repairs will be performed free of charge for parts and labor and may take up to forty minutes to complete.
Nissan will include a statement in the Part 577 owner notification concerning reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a pre-notification remedy as some of the subject vehicles are no longer under warranty.

Production Dates : NOV 25, 2019 – MAR 12, 2021 VIN Range 1 : Begin : NR End : NR Not sequential Description of Noncompliance : Description of the Noncompliance : Due to the design of the rear view camera harness and its specific routing within the affected vehicles, the harness may become damaged from movement and vibrations during vehicle operation. Over time, damage to the harness can result in the degradation of the rear view camera display image, leading to issues such as blurriness, distortion, multi-colored imagery, or in some cases, a blank screen. Nissan has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that it is issuing a Voluntary Safety Recall Campaign on certain MY2020-2021 Sentra and MY2019-2021 Altima Platinum trim level vehicles identified in Service Comm and DBS National Service History. Over time, the rear view camera harness connector within the affected vehicles could become damaged from harness movement and vibration during vehicle operation. If the rear view camera connector terminals become damaged, the backup camera display image could become blurry, distorted, multi-colored or blank screen. If this condition occurs, it may not comply with FMVSS 111 s.5.5 Rear Visibility. If the rear view image is not available, rearward visibility may be reduced, potentially increasing the risk of a crash. The dealer will inspect the function of the rear view camera. If the rear view camera harness is damaged, the dealer will replace the rear view camera and harness assembly.
