2. Vehicles Potentially Involved:
Certain Model Year 2024 INFINITI QX60 and Nissan Pathfinder vehicles manufactured from
November 14, 2023 through January 11, 2024 at the Smyrna, TN plant. Based on production
records, the issue (as described in Section 5 below) is specific to INFINITI QX60 and Nissan
Pathfinder vehicles equipped with an affected seat belt lap pre-tensioner assembly and
produced during the specified vehicle production period. No other Nissan or INFINITI
vehicles are affected.

5. Description of the Noncompliance:
Due to a supplier production issue that has since been corrected, the left side front seat
belt may be missing a rivet in the lap belt pre-tensioner assembly. If the rivet is missing, the
occupant may not be restrained as intended during a collision and may not meet the
requirements of 55.5 of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 208, Occupant
Crash Protection; FMVSS No. 209, Seat Belt Assemblies; and FMVSS No. 210, Seat Belt
Assembly Anchorages, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.
6. Basis for Determination of the Existence of a Noncompliance:
On January 10, 2024, during a routine inspection at the supplier, a technician reported a
missing rivet on a driver’s side lap belt pre-tensioner assembly. The supplier quarantined
the part and initiated an investigation.
January 2024 – As part of the investigation, both Nissan and the supplier conducted an
inventory parts inspection. The supplier inspected 5,568 parts and found two (2) with the
subject condition. Nissan conducted a plant audit and service parts inspection totaling
2,751 parts, and identified one (1) lap belt pre-tensioner assembly with a missing rivet. The
suspect part was quarantined and returned to the supplier facility for analysis.
The supplier’s initial investigation of the returned part and review of production records
identified the left-hand rivet spacer presence sensor at the job station following the rivet
application was not working and the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) program sensor
was disabled. The supplier confirmed the right-hand rivet spacer presence sensor was
functioning properly.
February 2024- Based on Supplier and Nissan engineering judgment, a lap belt pretensioner
with a missing rivet may not comply with certain regulatory standards because,
without the rivet, the separation force is lower than certain regulatory requirements.
Additionally, the supplier reviewed production records to validate the suspect window of
subject pre-tensioners.
Based on the supplier investigation, Nissan identified the vehicle production range of
potentially affected left hand seat belt assemblies.
February 27, 2024 – Nissan decided to conduct a voluntary recall campaign to remedy the
potentially affected vehicles in the U.S. market.
Nissan is not aware of any warranty claims, accident or injuries related to the subject
condition.
7. Description of Corrective Action:
Nissan or INFINITI will notify the owners of the potentially affected vehicles beginning on
April 78, 2024, and urge them to bring their vehicle to a Nissan dealer or INFINITI retailer for
repair. Dealers will be notified on March 6, 2024. Dealers will be instructed to inspect the left
side front seat belt assembly for the presence of the lap belt pre-tensioner rivet. If the rivet
is missing, the left side front lap belt pre-tensioner will be replaced. All repairs will be
performed free of charge for parts and labor and may take one (1) hour to complete.
Nissan will not include a statement in the Part 577 owner notification concerning
reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a pre-notification remedy as the subject vehicles
are still under warranty.
