NONCOMPLIANCE INFORMATION REPORT
1. Manufacturer:

2. Vehicles Potentially Involved:
Certain Model Year 2021 Nissan Rogue Sport vehicles manufactured from March 19, 2021 to
April 29, 2021. Based on production records, the subject hinge assemblies (described in
section 5 below) are used on Nissan Rogue Sport vehicles produced at the NMK plant for
the U.S. market.
The subject hinge assemblies are also used on Nissan Qashqai and Nissan Murano vehicles
produced for foreign markets. The Nissan Murano vehicles produced at the Dongfeng
Nissan (DFN) plant are specifically for Chinese market. The Nissan Murano for the U.S.
market is not affected. A separate Foreign Recall Report will be submitted for these
vehicles.

1% is used here because the incident rate is unknown.

5. Description of the Noncompliance:
On certain Rogue Sport vehicles, the liftgate hinges may have insufficient strength due to
improper molding of the shaft. During the shaft molding process at the supplier, the
movable mold was out of position during the operation. This caused the shaft to be
pressed excessively, thereby reducing the strength. In this condition, the liftgate hinges
may separate from the vehicle in the event of a rear crash; which does not meet the
requirements specified in S4.1.2.1 of FMVSS No. 206; Door locks and door retention
components. If the liftgate hinges separate during a rear crash, it may increase the risk of
injury to the occupants.
6. Basis for Determination of the Existence of a Noncompliance
On May 20, 2021, Nissan was notified by the supplier about a potential issue with certain
liftgate hinge assemblies for Nissan Rogue Sport and Nissan Murano vehicles produced for
both U.S. and foreign markets. Nissan and its supplier investigated to determine whether
the issue affected compliance with the regulation, and which markets were affected.
May 2021 to June 2021 – During the investigation, Nissan confirmed that the hinge
assembly lacked sufficient strength due to improper molding, and may break at a strength
less than the regulation requirement. At this time, Nissan also conducted a market review
and found no incidents related to the subject condition.
July 1, 2021 – Based upon confirmation that the subject condition affected compliance with
FMVSS No. 206, Nissan made a noncompliance determination.
7. Description of Corrective Action:
Dealers will replace the left and right liftgate hinges. Dealers will be notified July 13, 2021.
Nissan will notify all owners of potentially affected vehicles by September 7, 2021.
We will not include a statement in the Part 577 owner notification concerning
reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a pre-notification remedy as the subject vehicles
are under warranty.

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Nissan
has decided that certain 2021 Model Year Rogue Sport vehicles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle
Standard (FMVSS) number 206, “Door locks and door retention components.” Our records indicate that
you own or lease the Nissan vehicle subject to this recall as identified by the VIN on the inside of this
notice.
Reason for Recall

Due to a supplier issue that led to improper molding of the shaft, certain Rogue Sport vehicles may have
been manufactured with liftgate hinges that have insufficient strength. As a result, the liftgate hinges
may separate from the vehicle in the event of a crash. If the liftgate hinges separate during a crash, it
may increase the risk of injury to the occupants.
What Nissan Will Do

Your Nissan dealer will replace both the right and left liftgate hinges to remedy this condition. This free
service could take up to one and a half (1.5) hours to complete. However, your Nissan dealer may
require your vehicle for a longer period of time based upon their work schedule.

Nissan is committed to the safety and security of our customers and their passengers. Nissan has
notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Transport Canada that it is
recalling certain MY2021 Nissan Rogue Sport and MY21 Oashqai vehicles in the US and Canada to address
a concern with the back door liftgate hinges.
Due to a supplier issue that has since been corrected, the back door (liftgate) hinges may have insufficient
strength due to improper molding of the shaft In this condition, the hinges may separate from the
vehicle in the event of a crash, which does not meet the requirements specified in FMVSS No. 206; Door
Locks and Door Retention Components. If the liftgate hinges separate during a crash, it may increase the
risk of injury to the occupants. Dealers will replace both the right and left back door liftgate hinges to
remedy this condition.

New vehicles in dealer inventory can also be identified using DBS (Sales-> Vehicle Inventory,
and filter by Open Campaign).

2. Dealers should use NTB21-062 to remedy any vehicles subject to this campaign.
If a retailed vehicle affected by this campaign ID visits the dealer for service, the dealer
should inform the customer about the recall campaign and communicate that parts may
need to be ordered In an effort to minimize inconvenience to the customer, dealers
should place an order for the part and schedule a follow up appointment for repair once
the part is available.
3. Once remedied, dealers should submit the claim, using the claims coding provided, and release
the vehicle.

NOTE: Parts currently in dealer stock should be returned to the facing PDC
using a “G” code (to be scrapped) no later than July 23. 2021. Do not use

Q. Will a rental vehicle be provided while the dealer is servicing the vehicle?
A Please consult your dealer for alternate transportation availability while your vehicle is being
serviced. Rental is available upon customer request, while parts are on order.
Contact the Warranty claims call center 1-800-258-7008 Option 7, if additional expense
is required. Please refer to the Goodwill Rental Guidelines in the APRM for detailed
information regarding application of rental reimbursement
Q. Will I have to take my vehicle back to the selling dealer to have the service performed?
A No, any authorized Nissan dealer is able to perform the recall campaign.

action completed.
Q. I have lost confidence in the vehicle. Will Nissan replace or repurchase the vehicle?
A The remedy will fully correct this condition. As the condition will be corrected, there is no basis for
repurchasing or replacing your vehicle.

A Certain Model Year 2021 Nissan Rogue Sport and Model Year 2021 Nissan Qashqai vehicles
manufactured from March 19, 2021 to April 29, 2021 at the kyushu, Japan plant are affected.
