) is recalling certain 2021 Rogue Sport vehicles. The liftgate hinges can separate from the vehicle during a rear end crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 206, “Door Locks and Door Retention Components.”
Remedy
Dealers will replace the left and right liftgate hinges, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 7, 2021. Owners may contact Nissan
customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan

is committed to the safety and security of our customers and their passengers. Nissan
has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Transport Canada that it is recalling certain MY2021 Nissan
Rogue Sport and MY21 Oashqai vehicles in the US and Canada to address a concern with the back door liftgate hinges.
Due to a supplier issue that has since been corrected, the back door (liftgate) hinges may have insufficient strength due to improper molding of the shaft In this condition, the hinges may separate from the vehicle in the event of a crash, which does not meet the requirements specified in FMVSS No. 206; Door Locks and Door Retention Components. If the liftgate hinges separate during a crash, it may increase the risk of injury to the occupants. Dealers will replace both the right and left back door liftgate hinges to remedy this condition.

Description of the Noncompliance:
On certain Rogue Sport vehicles, the liftgate hinges may have insufficient strength due to improper molding of the shaft. During the shaft molding process at the supplier, the movable mold was out of position during the operation. This caused the shaft to be pressed excessively, thereby reducing the strength. In this condition, the liftgate hinges may separate from the vehicle in the event of a rear crash; which does not meet the requirements specified in S4.1.2.1 of FMVSS No. 206; Door locks and door retention components. If the liftgate hinges separate during a rear crash, it may increase the risk of injury to the occupants.
Basis for Determination of the Existence of a Noncompliance
On May 20, 2021, Nissan
was notified by the supplier about a potential issue with certain liftgate hinge assemblies for Nissan
Rogue Sport and Nissan
Murano vehicles produced for both U.S. and foreign markets. Nissan
and its supplier investigated to determine whether the issue affected compliance with the regulation, and which markets were affected.
May 2021 to June 2021 – During the investigation, Nissan
confirmed that the hinge assembly lacked sufficient strength due to improper molding, and may break at a strength less than the regulation requirement. At this time, Nissan
also conducted a market review and found no incidents related to the subject condition.
July 1, 2021 – Based upon confirmation that the subject condition affected compliance with FMVSS No. 206, Nissan
made a noncompliance determination.
Description of Corrective Action:
Dealers will replace the left and right liftgate hinges. Dealers will be notified July 13, 2021.
Nissan
will notify all owners of potentially affected vehicles by September 7, 2021.
We will not include a statement in the Part 577 owner notification concerning reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a pre-notification remedy as the subject vehicles are under warranty.

need to be ordered In an effort to minimize inconvenience to the customer, dealers
should place an order for the part and schedule a follow up appointment for repair once
the part is available.
3. Once remedied, dealers should submit the claim, using the claims coding provided, and release
the vehicle.
