INTRODUCTION
Nissan
is conducting this voluntary safety recall campaign, on certain specific model year 2017-2019 Rogue Hybrid vehicles, to install a wire harness protector on the engine room harness. This service will be performed at no charge to the customer for parts or labor.
IDENTIFICATION NUMBER
Nissan has assigned identification number R21B6 to this campaign. This number must appear on all communication and documentation of any nature dealing with this campaign.
DEALER RESPONSIBILITY
It is the dealer’s responsibility to check Service COMM or Dealer Business Systems (DBS) National Service History for the campaign status on each vehicle falling within the range of this voluntary safety recall which for any reason enters the service department. This includes vehicles purchased from private parties or presented by transient (tourist) owners and vehicles in a dealer’s inventory. Federal law requires that new vehicles in dealer inventory which are the subject of a safety recall must be corrected prior to sale. Failure to do so can result in civil penalties by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. While federal law applies only to new vehicles, Nissan strongly encourages dealers to correct any used vehicles in their inventory before they are retailed.
REQUIRED MATERIALS
Wire Harness Protector 24009-4BC0A
Scotch® Super 33+TM/MC Vinyl Electrical Tape
- This is the only tape approved to perform this repair. Do not substitute this vinyl electrical tape for any other tape.
- This vinyl electrical tape is widely available from most home centers, hardware stores, industrial supply stores, and large box stores.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
- Open the vehicle’s hood and place protective fender covers over the front bumper and driver (LH) side fender.
- Remove the two (2) plastic holding clips and the one (1) bolt from the air duct 1 assembly.
- Disengage the holding tab connecting air duct 2 to the air filter box.
- Lift the air duct 1 and air duct 2 assembly straight up to remove from the engine bay.
- Remove the high voltage fuse, fusible link and relay box (fuse box) from the ECM/TCM bracket by disconnecting the two (2) plastic holding clips.
- Lift the fuse box up off the bracket once the locking clips are released.
- Move the fuse box toward the front of the vehicle, as shown in Figure 8, to disengage both wire harness electrical connector mounting clips from the ECM/TCM bracket.
IMPORTANT: Do not disconnect the wire harness electrical connectors from the wire harness.
- Remove the resonator duct.
- Lift and move the fuse box toward the rear of the vehicle to remove the resonator duct from the vehicle, as shown in Figure 9.
- Move the fuse box toward the front of the vehicle and hold in place using a suitable elastic strap, as shown in Figure 10.
- Align the two (2) small wire harness branches side by side, and then, using the required vinyl electrical tape, secure the main wire harness and both wire harness branches together, as shown in Figure 11.
- Wrap the vinyl electrical tape around the main wire harness and both wire harness branches two (2) times.
HINT: Do not wrap the wire harness more than two (2) times as the taped bundle may become too large for the wire harness protector.
- With the hook-and-loop fastener side facing down, measure the wire harness protector 30 mm (5 inch) from either side, and place a mark in the center, as shown in Figure 12.
- Align the center mark on the wire harness protector with the junction of the smaller wire harness branches from the main wire harness, as shown in Figure 13 and Figure 14.
- Wrap the wire harness protector around the wire harness, and then fix the hook-andloop fastener of the protector.
- Verify the center mark is aligned with the center of the wire harness branch junction.
- Verify the protector is tight to the harness (no slack in the wire harness protector).
- Tape up the wire harness protector using the required vinyl electrical tape.
NOTE:
- Allow a 15 mm (5625 inch) section at the top of the wire harness protector to be untaped, as shown in Figure 17. This will allow movement of the wire harness branches to ease the installation of the wire harness electrical connector mounting clips to the ECM/TCM bracket.
- The tape should extend approximately 20 mm (75 inch) below the bottom of the wire harness protector, as shown in Figure 17.
- Remove the elastic strap and the shop cloth from the vehicle.
- Install the resonator duct in the reverse order of removal.
- Lift and move the fuse box toward the rear of the vehicle to install the resonator duct, as shown in Figure 18.
- Move the fuse box toward the front of the vehicle, as shown in Figure 19, to connect both wire harness electrical connector mounting clips to the ECM/TCM bracket.
- Install air duct 1 on the resonator duct by holding the resonator duct and securely engage the joint A.
IMPORTANT: Make sure the resonator duct is aligned properly to ensure proper fitment of air duct 1.
- Install air duct 2, and then install the two (2) plastic holding clips and the one (1) bolt to air duct 1.
- Air duct 1 bolt torque: 5.5 Nm (0.56 kg-m, 49 in-lb)
- Remove the protective fender covers and close the hood.

Move the fuse box toward the front of the vehicle and hold in place using a suitable elastic strap, as shown in Figure 10. Place a shop cloth between the fuse box and the radiator support. Align the two (2) small wire harness branches side by side, and then, using the required vinyl electrical tape, secure the main wire harness and both wire harness branches together, as shown in Figure 11.
